RESTAURANT REVIEW: GOURMET PIZZA COMPANY SOUTHBANK
The Gourmet Pizza Company is a lovely spot tucked away in Gabriel’s Wharf on the South Bank of the River Thames. It has become a firm family favourite of ours whenever we’re visiting Central London, and for good reason: the food is simply delicious!
The restaurant specialises in freshly prepared pizzas, but if you’re not in the mood for one, there’s still plenty to choose from including salads, fish, chicken, pasta dishes, and great vegetarian options. The prices are reasonable (especially for London), and the portion sizes are generous. I’ve never left feeling anything less than full and satisfied.
There’s also a great selection of starters and desserts, plus a wide choice of drinks from red and white wines, to cocktails and beers, as well as several types of tea and coffee.
We often joke that the outside looks like the perfect set for the 1975 thriller Jaws. With the beach-hut-style buildings and quirky charm. Gabriel’s Wharf is a fantastic spot for anyone wanting to browse galleries, enjoy a meal, or explore the brilliant little shops selling unique, handmade goods.

Although there didn’t used to be a dedicated children’s menu when my eldest son was a toddler, The Gourmet Pizza Company now offers a fantastic set children’s meal. It’s a brilliant addition that makes dining with little ones even easier. The staff are still more than happy to cater to any specific requests, and they’re always extremely friendly and accommodating with extras, like high chairs and small adjustments to the menu order.
On a previous visit, I asked for a simple pasta dish that wasn’t listed, and they prepared it for us straight away. My son cleared the plate in minutes! So even with the new set menu, if your child has any particular preferences, don’t hesitate to ask. The staff have always been kind, flexible, and extremely helpful.
The only slight downside when visiting with young children is the lack of dedicated baby-changing facilities, so that’s something to keep in mind if you’re bringing a baby or toddler.
I’ve personally never struggled to get a table, but the restaurant can get quite busy during peak times, so be prepared to wait a little if you’re heading there during the lunch or dinner time rush.

During my latest visit, it was absolutely pouring it down! That’s what we call Classic London. So with the family, we chose to sit inside. The interior of the restaurant is cosy and inviting, with an open kitchen that adds a lovely homely touch. The staff, as always, were incredibly friendly and happy to chat. They really go out of their way to help with any requests, no matter how big or small.
On the flip side, when the sun does make an appearance, there’s something truly magical about sitting outside in the seating area. Eating and drinking in front of the river. You get a front-row view of the Thames, and there’s nothing quite like enjoying a fresh, delicious pizza while watching the world drift by. It’s peaceful, vibrant, and makes you fall in love with London all over again.
Whether you’re after a casual lunch with family, a quick bite with the kids, or a relaxed dinner date with a view? I highly recommend The Gourmet Pizza Company.
